Starting point

Schools have run on Excel and disconnected dashboards for years: academic results on one tab, finance on another, schedules on a third. Teachers, parents, and administrators each talk through a different channel — there's no system, just individual arrangements.

The brief was ambitious: cover the full lifecycle, admissions to graduation, in one platform. Finance integration, parent portal, teacher dashboard — all of it.

Decisions

  1. Academics and finance share a core — they shouldn't live in separate systems. The student record and academic progress sit on the same page.
  2. Parent portal is a first-class surface — attendance, grades, payments, messages all in one place.
  3. Payment gateway integrated — no more parents paying through side channels.
  4. Role-based access — director, teacher, parent, accountant each see their own slice.

Execution

Stack: Laravel + MySQL, Vue.js frontend, React Native mobile. Payment gateway integration goes through local payment providers. SMS and email notifications run on a queue.

“The hardest part was the parent UX. Attendance, grade history, upcoming payments — all of it had to be visible at a glance without overwhelming them.”

Result

  • Academics and finance share one platform — admin no longer keeps two sets of books.
  • Parent portal and mobile app — communication is now systemic.
  • Payment integration — manual payment flows are gone.
  • Role-based access — each user sees only what they need.
