Khub · Technology community

A community site for a technology hub

Khub needed a clear front door — who they are, who's in the community, what's happening. We delivered a website that runs members, events, and membership flow without becoming a generic template build.

Starting point

A technology community is, in the end, its people and its events. Without a clear front door, the community lives only in private chat groups, and new members never quite find a way in. The brief was to give Khub a visible centre — a place where the community is legible to itself and to outsiders.

The visible danger was the lazy version of this brief — drop in a stock template, fill it with member photos, call it done. We wanted to do the opposite: build something that makes the community look as serious as it actually is.

Decisions

  1. Members and events are the spine of the site — not a marketing splash above a flat "about" page.
  2. Membership flow that respects the visitor's time — no long form before they understand what they're joining.
  3. Editorial tone over corporate — the writing makes it clear this is a community, not a service.
  4. Calm typography over decorative — the writing carries the personality, not the layout.

Execution

Lightweight stack, a CMS the team can update themselves, and a membership flow integrated with the existing community tools.

“A community site only matters if it's accurate. The moment the calendar gets stale, the site becomes part of the noise.”

The membership flow is short and direct — three steps, no fluff. The CMS uses content types modelled on how the community actually thinks about itself: members, events, programmes, partners.

Result

  • Clear member and event surfaces — new people find their way in.
  • Membership flow that closes itself out without a sales pitch.
  • The team can update it — they don't need us to ship a new event.
  • Membership conversion measurable for the first time — the team can see what works.
